Artificial Pancreas

Kerry Morgan agreed to undergo a clinical trial for diabetes prevention when she was 3 because her older sister had diabetes. At age 4 she developed diabetes, she says she remembered how everything changed, from juice and M&M’s everyday to no sugar, shots, and finger pricks. Kerry first head of the artificial pancreas at age 14 while at the University of Virginia to undergo another test. At the age of 18 two of the four tests Kerry has participated in have used the artificial pancreas and she says it makes her feel normal because she doesn’t have to check her blood sugar every five seconds or do her insulin, the machine was doing it for her. In a type one diabetic the pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin, the hormone that controls the glucose levels in your blood, so a type 1 diabetic must constantly check their blood sugar and give themselves insulin, with the artificial pancreas the machine checks their blood for them and injects the correct amount of insulin to keep blood glucose levels stable even when eating. The artificial pancreas has not yet been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration because the machine is potentially dangerous when not being supervised by doctors because it gives insulin to a diabetic on its own and not at a pre programmed time and amount.

This could help every diabetic in the world and their family, including mine.

I hope this works because I want to be able to use it.
