HCG diets unsafe

HCG diets unsafe

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued warning letters to seven companies selling over-the-counter weight-loss products containing HCG. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone found in the urine of pregnant women and has been marketed as a natural way to increase metabolism and help weight loss. The FDA stated that the products containing HCG are unproven and potentially unsafe and warned consumers not to purchase these products.

The products recommend no more than 500 calories a day. The restriction in caloric intake would help weight loss, not necessarily the HCG. It's unhealthy to restrict your diet that severely as it can lead to heart arrhythmias, gallstones, and electrolyte imbalance.

The assistant director of the FTC stated the diet industry is one of the most fad-driven and fraud-driven markets. The companies receiving warning letters are Nutri Fusion Systems, Natural Medical Supply (HCG Complete Diet), HCG Platinum, Theoriginalhcgdrops.com, HCG Diet Direct, Hcg-miracleweightloss.com, and HCG Drops.

The old-fashioned way of maintaining a healthy weight is still the best. A balanced diet with regular exercise makes the most sense and you don't need to waste your money on potentially unsafe gimmicks.
