Scoliosis is an unusual curving of the spine. Your spine runs straight down your back and everyone’s spine naturally curves a bit. However people with scoliosis have a spine that curves too much. People with scoliosis usually will have a spine that is shaped like a “C” or an “S”. Most of the time the reasoning for scoliosis is unknown. It is also mostly found in girls. There aren't usually any symptoms to scoliosis but some can be:
Backache or low-back pain
Tired feeling in the spine after sitting or standing for a long time
uneven hips or shoulders (one shoulder may be higher than the other)
Spine curves more to one side
As for treatment, people over the age of ten will wear a back brace because it normally works the best. However, sometimes surgery IS needed. There are some complications to being diagnosed with scoliosis. Complications of scoliosis can include:
Breathing problems (in severe scoliosis)
Low back pain
Lower self-esteem
persistent pain if there is wear and tear of the spine bones
Spinal infection after surgery
Spine or nerve damage from an uncorrected curve or spinal surgery
I think that this information would be helpful to any person because it may help them to realize just how lucky they are to have their bones work and grow properly and not to take advantage of it by pulling stupid stunts :)
