Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a common syndrome in which a person has long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia is not a disease that can be diagnosed by a blood sample or an x-ray. The symptoms may overlap with the conditions of other diseases, which make it hard for doctors to diagnose it. Some doctors will try to base their diagnosis off of whether the patient has both of these symptoms:

  • Chronic widespread pain that affects the right and left sides of the body above and below the waist.

  • And feels pain in at least 11 of the 18 possible tender points when light pressure is applied.

People with fibromyalgia can wake up with body aches and stiffness. Sometimes the pain can improve during the day and get worse at night. However, some people will have pain all day long. Some of the best ways to help your Fibromyalgia is to get physical therapy or join an exercise and fitness program. If these suggestions fail to show improvement, a doctor may prescribe some antidepressants or some muscle relaxers.

I think that this is valuable information because it is important to know about different kinds of diseases and their symptoms so that if you ever notice a trend you may be able to nail it on the head before you pay a bunch of money at the hospital for them to figure it out.
