Respiratory System
The respiratory system is located in the thorax. It is responisble for gas exchanges between the circulatory sytsem and the rest of the world. Air is then taken in through the upper airways through the lower airways and into the small bronchioles and alveoli inside the ling tissue. The lungs are divided into lobes. The left lung is made up of the upper lobe, the lower lobe and the lingual. The lingual is a small piece next to the apex of the heart. The right lung is made up of the upper, the middle, and the lower lobes. To take breath in, the outside intercostal muscles contract. This will move the ribcage up and out. The diaphragm moves down at the same time, making negative pressure in the thorax. The lungs are held to the thoracic wall by the pleural membranes, and so that goes out as well. This creates negative pressure in the lungs, and so air rushes in through the upper and lower airways.
