Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes a person to have repeated seizures. It occurs when permanent changes in brain tissue cause the brain to be too jumpy and the brain then sends out abnormal signals. Some of the common causes of epilepsy are:
-strokes
-dementia
-traumatic brain injury
-infections to the brain
-brain problems from birth
-metabolism disorders
-brain tumors
-and any other thing that can damage brain tissue
Some of the complications that may arise when being diagnosed with epilepsy are:
-difficulty learning
-breathing in saliva or food while having a seizure can cause aspiration pneumonia
-injury from falls
-permanent brain damage
-side effects of medications
