Hypothermia Therapy

A type of therapy known as hypothermia therapy (HT) can provide benefits for people who suffer from cardiac arrest. HT may also increase survival for cardiac arrest patients, but it may also have protective effects on the brain. When a person goes into cardiac arrest, it stops the heart from pumping, which stops the blood from circulating to the brain and can lead to neurological damage. But it have been found that HT appears to slow the rate of damage and protect the brain from negative effects on the brain. HT can slow down the rate and or minimize the damage, it doesn't heal any previous damage that occurred in the brain.

If people are to go into cardiac arrest from the effects of something such as a heart attack, then I believe they should use hypothermia therapy. Not only can it reduce the effects, it is also more likely to save the patients life from damage to the brain. It does have some small risks, but it is far out weighted then not using HT. This type of treatment is becoming more aware in the medical fields, but is not being used as much as it should.

People should being using this treatment more because it increases their chance of survival and is very low cost to them. If this was used more on cardiac arrest patients, then you would see a higher chance of survival from patients. As well as save people money, which a lot of people can afford a few big bags of ice cubes.
