what in the world is tmj?

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint disorder. TMJ is caused by inflammation of the temporomandibular joint. This can cause pain and discomfort-there is no treatment for this. Symptoms may include:
  • Biting or chewing difficulty or discomfort
  • Clicking, popping, or grating sound when opening or closing the mouth
  • Dull, aching pain in the face
  • Earache (particularly in the morning)
  • Headache (particularly in the morning)
  • Hearing loss
  • Migraine (particularly in the morning)
  • Jaw pain or tenderness of the jaw
  • Reduced ability to open or close the mouth
  • Tinnitus
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Dizziness
I have TMJ, just not as sever. When i wake up in the morning one side of my jam is locked and I can't open my mouth very wide. It has given me headaches, and it makes it hard to eat sometime. When you go down to chew, your mouth doesn't open back up. It's scary sometimes...but there is nothing I can do to make it go away.
