Insight into Human Evolution through Gorilla Genome Sequence
http://sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/03/120307132210.html
Scientists have compared the genomes of all four living great apes for the first time the genomes of Humans, Gorillas, and Chimpanzees are available for scientific study. The Gorilla genome is specifically important because it reveals when Human ancestors evolved from Gorillas. The research team searched 11,000 Human, Chimpanzee, and Gorilla genes for genetic changes that indicate evolution. Humans are genetically closer to Chimpanzees, or at least that was what was thought, the team found that Humans are 15% closer to Gorillas than Chimpanzees and Chimpanzees are 15% closer to Gorillas than Humans.
This could lead to the discovery of exactly how humans evolved from monkeys and other similar species. So it effects genetic researchers, historians, and anyone else interested in that.
