hair growth

Hair can grow roughly about 1.25 centimeters or 0.5 inches a month. The average amount of hair growth a person will have in a year is around 6 inches. As a person gets older their hair will begin to slow down its process of growing and will grow at a much slower pace. When cell division occurs, the new cells push the hair forward, making it longer. There are about 100,000 hairs on a healthy scalp of hair and can last around 6 years if cared for properly. We all loose about 100 hairs a day but are always replaced by new hairs. However as aging occurs the lack of new hairs being produced is the cause of baldness. The old hairs fall out but there are no new hair to replace it.
