Blinking

We blink to filter our eyes. we blink to keep them from drying out and to keep foreign objects out of our eyes. Our eyelids are connected to muscles that can expand and contract so quickly that when we blink it does not affect our vision. On the rim of our eyelids we have little oil producing glands that are between our eyelashes but cannot be seen by the human eye. Not only do our eyelids protect us from objects that do not belong in the eyes but so do our eyelashes. When our eyes come upon an unknown object or are surrounded by harsh weather conditions, our eyelids lower (meaning we squint) in order to protect our eyes. I think that this information is useful because i always wondered why my automatic reflex to windy weather or bright lights caused me to squit without being aware of what i was doing.
