E Coli

E. coli is short for Escherichia coli is bacteria that cause severe cramps and diarrhea. . The bacterium is commonly found in the gut of warm blooded organisms. E. coli is a leading cause of bloody diarrhea. The symptoms are worse in children and older people, and especially in people who have another illness. E. coli infection is more common during the summer months and in northern states.

If a person is affected by E Coli they can feel abdominal pain, which is the first symptom is severe abdominal cramping that comes on suddenly. Also the person get diarrhea a few hours after the sudden abdominal pain, and it is usually watery. A day later there may be bright red bloody stools, caused by sores in the intestines. Nausea may hit you too, along with vomiting, fever, and fatigue. dIg the person gets diarrhea it causes a loss of fluids and electrolytes making the body dehydrated, making the person feel sick and tired. For some people you may not notice any symptoms. Although there is a chance of them spreading the infection to others, without them knowing it.

Humans can be affected by taking in contaminated water or taking in contaminated food . Certain foods like ground beef, unpasteurized milk, or fresh vegetables. Infected people who work in restaurants and do not wash their hands properly after going to the toilet can spread the infection to customers and other members of staff. Contact with animals may be a factor also. Farm animals are not they not the only ones, but also in petting zoos or country fairs.
